Names

My attempt at the weekly writing challenge, which focuses on the power of names.

Names

His name
was
Kevin.
My name
was

He
is always
“he”
and even a pronoun
shakes me.

A name is a word,
a capitalized Capitol,
and yes
it’s where the power is.
Centered on two syllables,
each time I try to get away
it’s just a brain
on a subway
a one-way trip to nowhere.

If it could be
just “he”
maybe
the Capitol would have an airport
and somewhere
is a place
with no syllables
except my own.

Until then,
his name
was
Kevin
and
my name
was
